What happened to the Tupolev?
A crash over Paris Concorde completed its demonstration first, without a hitch, but the Tupolev put on a far more audacious show, with twists and turns that proved to be fatal: the aircraft broke up in midair and crashed into the village of Goussainville, killing six on board and eight on the ground.
Is the Tupolev Tu-144 still flying?
Production of the Tu-144 ended in 1982. At the time, 14 Tu-144s remained, some of which had a brief resurrection training crew for the planned Soviet Space Shuttle flights. But by the end of the 1980s, all the Tu-144s had been mothballed, many in storage at the Soviet aircraft testing base at Zhukovsky, near Moscow.

Several important technical features weren’t up to scratch with what was available across the globe at the time. The engine control and aerodynamics fell short of the Concorde, which beat the Tu-144 by a range of 400 NM (740 km). These technical factors caused a domino effect on the overall passenger experience.
