Why is my cruise control not working on my GMC Sierra?
The most common reasons a GMC Sierra 1500 cruise control isn’t working are failed control module, sensor or switch issues, or throttle actuation problems.
What module controls the cruise control?
engine control module
Most recently, with the development of drive-by-wire or electronic throttle control systems (ETCS), cruise control is built into the engine control module (ECM), which controls the throttle body electronically.
Where is cruise control system located?
The driver can set the cruise control with the cruise switches, which usually consist of ON, OFF, RESUME, SET/ACCEL and COAST. These are commonly located on the steering wheel or on the windshield wiper or turn signal stalk. The SET/ACCEL knob sets the speed of the car.
Why would cruise control stopped working?
The most common reason a cruise control stops working is due to a blown fuse or a defective brake pedal switch. It can also be caused by issues with the throttle control system or the ABS. In older cruise control systems it can be caused by a broken vacuum line.
Where is the fuse for cruise control?
You can easily find out where your cruise control fuse is and what it’s called in your owner’s manual. But most often, you’ll find the cruise control fuse box under the dashboard on the driver’s side.
What are the parts of a cruise control system?
They are:
- Steering Wheel Controls.
- Vehicle speed sensor.
- Clutch pedal switch.
- Brake pedal switch.
- Throttle position sensor.
- Vacuum valve control.
- Vacuum actuator.
- ECU.
Is there a fuse that controls cruise control?
If your cruise control system is electronically controlled, it will have an associated fuse. If there’s an electrical problem, the fuse will fail in order to keep other wiring from getting damaged.
How do I know if my cruise control module is bad?
Usually a bad or failing cruise control vacuum reservoir will produce a few symptoms that can alert the driver of a potential problem that should be serviced.
- Speed surges while cruise control is engaged.
- Cruise control will not maintain speed.
- Engine performance issues.
What causes cruise control to stop working?
What deactivates cruise control?
Cruise control is required to be turned off in three ways: (1) a manual switch on the steering wheel, (2) a switch that is connected to the rear brake light fuse, and (3) the brake pressure switch.
Can cruise control be fixed?
If your cruise control system is electronically controlled, it will have an associated fuse. If there’s an electrical problem, the fuse will fail in order to keep other wiring from getting damaged. Try replacing the fuse. If it solves the problem and the cruise control keeps working, that’s great!
