What is the difference between cell reselection and handover?
If the cell change happens while UE is in idle mode, we call it ‘Cell Reselection’. and if the cell change happens while UE is in communication mode after radio bearer setup, we call it ‘Handover’.
What is cell selection and reselection in LTE?
Cell Reselection is a kind of mechanism to change cell after UE is camped on a cell and stay in IDLE mode. This is to let UE get connected to cell which has the best condition among all the cells to which the UE is allowed to camp on.
What is R criteria in LTE?
In order to make the decision for reselection. UE will go through a mathematical equation to identify and verify if the ranking and signal strength of neighboring cell is better than the serving cell for a specific amount of time, only then it will perform cell reselection. This brief procedure is termed as R-criteria.
What is SIB19?
SIB19 : It is system information block in WCDMA not in LTE. It contains Inter-RAT frequency and priority information to be used in the cell for the absolute RAT priority cell reselection algorithm. SIB 19 is used to bring UE to go from WCDMA back to LTE in Idle Mode.
What is SIB5?
System Information Block Type 5 or with abbreviated version SIB5 contains EUTRAN frequency related information and relevant only for inter-frequency cell re-selection. The message includes frequencies with specific re-selection parameters as well as blacklisted cells.
What is tau handover?
Handover with TAU. Figure 1 shows a handover procedure performed when UE in Connected state moves to a TA that it is not registered to. When the UE initially attached the network, MME selected TA1 and TA2 for the UE, and sent a TAI list = {TAI=1, TAI=2}, as included in the Attach Accept message.
What is SIB1 in LTE?
SIB1 contains cell access related information (e.g. a PLMN identity list, tracking area code, cell identity, etc.), information for cell selection (e.g. minimum required Rx level in the cell and offset), p-Max, frequency band indicator, scheduling information, TDD configuration, SI-window length and system information …
What is SIB2?
SystemInformationBlockType2 (SIB2) contains radio resource configuration information that is common for all UEs. It contains access barring information, radio resource configuration of common and shared channels, timers and constants which are used by UEs, uplink power control information etc.
What is cell selection criteria?
Cell Selection Criterion In broad sense, cell selection would be influenced by following factors. i) Is the cell transmitting power strong enough to be recognized/detected by the UE? ( Signal Strength/Quality Criteria) ii) Is the PLMN of the cell acceptable to the UE? ( PLMN selection criteria)
How many SIBs are there?
In LTE there are 13 types of SIBs. Each SIB has its own job to do, which means, they are meant to carry information which are related to performing their assigned job.
