What is articularis genu?
The articularis genu is a small flat muscle of the anterior knee. During knee extension it acts to tighten the synovial membrane superiorly thereby preventing impingement of the synovial folds between the femur and the patella.
Where is the articularis genu located?
Articularis genu is ribbon-like and arises on the anterior surface of the distal quarter of the femoral shaft, deep to the vastus intermedius muscle. It inserts distally onto the synovial membrane of the knee joint and the superior border of the suprapatellar bursa.
What is vastus intermedius muscle?
Vastus Intermedius is located centrally, underneath Rectus femoris in the anterior compartment of the thigh and on each side of it: Vastus medialis and Vastus Lateralis respectively. It is one of the four muscles that form the quadriceps femoris muscle.
What is the function of the art genus?
| Articularis genus muscle | |
|---|---|
| Insertion | suprapatellar bursa |
| Artery | femoral artery |
| Nerve | femoral nerve |
| Actions | Pulling the suprapatellar bursa during extension of the knee. |
What is vastus medialis?
Vastus medialis is one of the four muscles that make up the quadriceps group of muscles. It originates from the upper part of the femoral shaft and inserts as a flattened tendon into the quadriceps femoris tendon, which inserts into the upper border of the patella.
What is the origin of vastus muscle group?
The vastus medialis muscle originates from a continuous line of attachment on the femur, which begins on the front and middle side (anteromedially) on the intertrochanteric line of the femur.

What exercise works the vastus intermedius?
Squats are a great leg exercise. To obtain the strongest and most attractive legs possible, special attention needs to be given to the vastus lateralis and intermedius — the muscles in the middle and outer part of your upper thigh.
How did the plantaris get its name?
Plantaris gets its name because in many mammals it inserts into the plantar aponeurosis. However, in humans, the plantaris comes nowhere near it. As the muscle crosses both the knee and ankle joints, it weakly assists with knee and plantar flexion.
What is the medical term for knee?
Patella. The patella is the bone commonly known as the kneecap. It comprises the knee joint together with various connective tissue, the femur, tibia, and fibula.
