How do Hop cards work?
AT HOP card (what it is) An AT HOP card is a reusable prepay smart card for travel on trains, ferries and buses around Auckland. Top up your card before travel and tag on and off an AT service to pay for your fare.
Can someone else use my hop card?
Registered AT HOP cards: 15.2. You must not allow your Registered AT HOP card to be used by another person. If your Registered AT HOP card is found in the possession of a person other than yourself, we (and the Retail Agents and Public Transport Operators) reserve the right to retain that AT HOP card.
How do I add money to my Trimet hop card?

What happens if you forget to tag off HOP card?
If you forget to tag on or tag off you will be charged the default fare, which will be automatically deducted the next time you tag on. If this default fare puts your HOP money balance below $0, you will be unable to tag on until you load additional HOP money onto your AT HOP card.
